Nightingale Nursing Home was purpose built in 1996. The home is situated in a quiet, rural setting and is surrounded by large landscaped gardens. The combination of a practical, modern building with traditional styling, proved popular with residents and visitors alike.

Following high levels of demand, the home was extended in 2005. The home now comprises 35 beds accommodated in private and semi-private fully furnished bedrooms. We understand that when adapting to a new environment residents often like to have familiar items around them and are therefore encouraged to personalise their rooms. The home has four lounge areas, with televisions, video players, stereos and open gas fires.

In keeping with patient choice our large dining room can accommodate all residents with views over the Bunowen river and farmland beyond. Residents are welcome to have meals in their room as requested.

Bathrooms and toilets are located throughout the building and are fitted with specialist equipment to meet all mobility requirements. Designed on a single level the building is fully wheelchair accessible.

An important part of our policy of care is the provisions of recreational and motivational activities. These are provided every afternoon, by our activities co-ordinator, and include reminiscence therapy, craftwork, games, art, gardening, films and music.

Our Parish Priest visits weekly to celebrate Mass. Residents are provided with daily and weekly newspapers. Hairdressing and chiropody services are offered on site.

Family and friends are welcome to visit at any time, as we believe this is in the best interest of those we care for. We also welcome inspections from appropriate bodies at any time.

Complimentary therapies including reflexology, reiki and medical herbs are available on request. Residents have found treatments very helpful in combination with traditional medicine or when conventional approaches are no longer helpful. A doctor who is also a medical herbalist is available for consultations. Dr. Dilis Clare has twenty years experience as a general practitioner and is also a qualified medical herbalist. Her practice is based in Galway City but she will oblige residents with a visit to the home. Dr. Clare’s details can be found at www.healthandherbs.org
